Terrible News Today

Today, the Bush administration announced that all federal protection of the Gray Wolf is to be revoked. This will allow hunters in the states of Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana to all but completely obliterate the wolf population. With only 1500 wolves in these areas, there is not enough to sustain their population. The new federal laws will allow killings of all wolves but 300. Even in Yellowstone National Park (where for over a decade, people fought for the reintroduction of the wolf into the park), the wolf could be killed on sight. Pups are not safe either, hunters are now allowed to use aerial gunning, traps, poison, and any other method to kill entire wolf packs.

~~The Bush administration has used OUR tax dollars to already buy two planes for the purpose of aerial killing of wolves, making it possible to slaughter an entire wolf pack within minutes!~~

Even though the Gray Wolf is still on the Endangered Species list, the Bush administration has disregarded that fact and made it legal anyway to kill wolves. This is blatently illegal and disgusting.

The wolf is a beautiful creature with which I have shared a deep connection with my entire life. I would be greatly saddened if the only wolves my children ever get to see are on documentaries from decades ago, or caged up in zoos. The extinction of the gray wolf is emminent.

From Defenders of Wildlife:
Please take a moment right now to call the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at 1-800-344-WILD (9453) and deliver this simple message:

“My name is "-----" and I’m calling from "-----". I understand that the federal government may remove wolves in the Greater Yellowstone and Central Idaho regions from the list of federally protected threatened and endangered species.
I want your department to know that I strongly oppose the weakening of protections for these wolves and expect you to fulfill your obligation to secure a lasting future in the Northern Rockies for these amazing animals.”

Thanks for taking the time to read this. It's a subject that is immensely important to me.
Love,
Stefanie.

We need more land where no humans are allowed. They need some space to be left in peace.

"We need more land where no humans are allowed. They need some space to be left in peace. "
      Yes I agree 100%.
I think this human arrogant attitude of being caretakers of other species is what causes this problem to begin, because while many strive to be "good" caretakers, they still need to believe that the animals are somehow inferior to them and IN NEED of someone to take care of them in order to be care-takers to begin with. Good intentions do not automatically mean good.

And then assholes like Bush get power and they become BAD caretakers.

and it is not OUR job to control non-human populations, considering that we are doing such a horrible job controlling our own, I don;t think we are qualified anyway ;-)

humans should live where humans live and other species should have their own land, not preserves where we can go camping and watch them...after all would we like it if a family of deer decided to set up a camp in our living room?

but human-free zones...where no humans (not even wildlife "experts" nor well-meaning zoologists) are EVER allowed.

and since we are just ONE speices, these human- free zones should be most of the land (and ALL of the oceans)
